Carole Peters, executive director of United Way of Greater McHenry County, has been named 2020-2021 Board Chair for the United Way of Illinois (UWI).
UWI is a statewide association of local United Way organizations representing communities across Illinois. UWI’s mission is to advance the common good through public policy. They work to monitor the activity of government, review legislation, and educate the general public and public officials related to their impact on human services and on local communities.
“Carole has distinguished herself as an energetic and visionary leader,” said Eithne McMenamin, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy of United Way of Illinois. “As she moves into her year as Board Chair, we are excited to begin an organizational strategic visioning process that will lead UWI into the next decade. Carole’s professional and personal gifts, as well as experience, position us well as she takes the helm.”
Peters has served the past year on the Executive Committee of the Board, as Chair-Elect. Her one year term succeeds Sue Grey, President and CEO of United Way of Champaign County.
“It is such an honor to be the board chair. As a member of the executive committee this past year, I have seen firsthand how the United Way network across our state lifts up the communities where we serve,” said Peters. “We assist 102 counties in Illinois and in light of COVID-19, it is more important than ever that we are working together, focusing on community and helping people get through such a difficult time.”
